Simple, Silent, Smart!
Who wants to build an ultra-compact PC system, usually only has the choice between different barebones. However, the variability is severely limited because many specifications can hardly be influenced by the design as a complete computer. The German manufacturer Impactics now beats right in this breach and offers a system with high flexibility.
At its core, it is a special housing designed for passive cooling. For this purpose, Impactics offers coolers for various motherboards, which transfer the heat via heatpipes to the housing, where it is discharged via lateral cooling ribs. Thanks to this modular system and the interchangeable components, the mini-housing can be used even during later upgrades or conversions (a new cooler is sufficient).
The case is ultra-compact designed and can accommodate next to the motherboard even a slim and a 2.5-inch optical drive. Thus, it requires only minimal storage space and can be used almost anywhere. The design also supports this claim, as it is noble and discreet.
At first glance, the C3LH-B resembles a compact power amplifier in a hi-fi chain. This impression is largely due to the large lateral cooling ribs, which are made of aluminum. The front also consists of a solid aluminum plate, which has recesses for the external drive and the power button. If the hardware is installed, there are virtually no openings through which dust could penetrate.
Inside the case is a removable carrier that accommodates both drives - the optical front, the 2.5 inch rear. Below this, the Mini-ITX motherboard is placed, but only models can be used, for which compatible coolers from Impactics are available. These replace the original CPU cooler.
The advantage of the individual solution is that the cooler no longer requires a fan and thus no longer generates any noise. Rather, the Impactics system consists of a small heat sink, are embedded in the heat pipes, which are connected to the outer fins of the housing and in this way give off the heat of the CPU through the housing itself.
The insides of the cooling fins are each equipped with two sliding mounting rails. These are used for heat pipe coupling, in this way to establish contact between the CPU cooler and fins.
Notes: For operation, a compatible cooler for the mainboard used, matching heatpipes for connection to the housing, a power supply unit for power supply and one or more drives are also required. The installation of the cooler requires the disassembly of the original cooler. This is accompanied by a loss of warranty, which is why the modifications are at your own risk. Plug-in cards can not be used due to the limited height.
The system is aimed more at experienced PC users who have already assembled other systems. Figure 6 shows an example configuration. The cooler and other system components are not included.
