Watercress Tips and Tricks
Nasturtium officinale
If you like rocket, you’ll love watercress. Firstly, it’s a good source of vitamins, iron, and calcium. And secondly, it has a pleasantly sharp and peppery flavour from the mustard oil it contains– hence the Latin name nasturtium which is said to come from nasus, nose, and tortus, twisted. Watercress gives a brisk kick to sandwiches with egg, mayonnaise, ham, tuna or smoked fish. Try garnishing you roast veggies with watercress, mix it with milder salad leaves or whizz in a blender with potatoes to a very British soup. Jolly good, if not smashing.

- Pretty round "baby leaves" and juicy stems. Mild, with the only hint of pepper in its taste.
